Our Beginnings
Sixth Street Christian Church was founded in 1832 by Joseph Yount. The original church building was built in 1850 on Sixth Street (then known as Church Street). The original framework church was moved in 1913 to make way for the current structure, which was dedicated in 1914.
In 1955, plans were made for an addition to the current sanctuary structure and the "Education Wing" was dedicated in 1963. In 2005, a new entrance and elevator was added, giving the church the appearance it has today.
